Obituary for Brenda Gayle Lane (Hawkins)

Brenda “Gayle” Clements was the daughter of the late Letitia Briffett and the late Neil Hawkins. Gayle was a loving wife and devoted companion to Clayton Clements for more than 40 years. She departed this life quietly in her sleep on Dec 9 in Plymouth.
Her oldest son Paul, older sister Linda Lee, and nephew, Christopher Clements, preceded her in death.
Clayton and Gayle enjoyed travelling together and were avid sports fans. She especially loved football attending both Super Bowls and National Championships. A lifelong Patriot’s fan and a devout supporter of whichever college or professional football team where her brother worked.
She was born on December 6, 1946 on a Navy base in Jacksonville, Florida but soon thereafter moved to Massachusetts where she grew up and attended public schools graduating from Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston in 1965.
Gayle worked for over 55 years in a number of occupations including being a longtime and legendary bartender in various establishments in Plymouth. As a laborer and silk-screener in her younger years, she was a tireless worker and devoted single parent and dedicated provider for her children and her grandchildren.
Her daughter Brenda, her sons, Erik, Robert, and his wife Michele, survive Gayle.
She was the doting grandmother of Matthew and his wife Caitlin, Mykel, Jessica, Benjamin, Michael and his wife Marlla, Erik, and their mother Lori, Brayden, Emma, Charlotte and the loving great grandmother to Memphis and Harper Eden Lane.
Her brother-in-law Marvin, his wife Debbie and niece Kimberly and her children, and her brother Jeff, his wife Amy and their daughter Gabe also survive Gayle.
They say that when we leave this world we actually pass twice. The first time is when our last breath leaves our body. The second and last time is when our names are last spoken aloud.
In lieu of flowers, all those who she touched in life can help keep her memory and her spirit alive by … from time to time … simply saying her name aloud. Visitation will be at the Bartlett Funeral Home on 338 Court Street in Plymouth, MA on Monday, December 18 from 9am – 11am. Burial will be private.
