Obituary for Gordon Campbell

Gordon F. Campbell of Plymouth, formerly of Braintree, aged 89, passed away on December 18, 2017. He was the husband of the late Catherine F. Campbell of Braintree.

Gordon was born June 11, 1928, in Milton, MA, and graduated Milton High School in 1947, at which time he immediately entered USMMA at Kings Point, NY in June 1947. Following, Gordon served in the US Army Security Agency during the Korean conflict, and was Honorably Discharged in 1953.

He worked for the New England Telephone Company for 37 years until his 1992 retirement.

Gordon lived in Braintree, MA for over 40 years. He moved to Plymouth, MA in 2006 with his son.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America in Braintree, serving as Cubmaster for Pack 79, and as Asst. Scoutmaster and then Scoutmaster of Troop 79.

Active for many years in re-enactment of the 18th Century Soldier, Gordon was first a Sergeant with the Braintree Third Volunteer Militia, and then, Colonel of the Massachusetts Ninth Regiment, Continental Line. He was extremely active with the Braintree Historical Society, (Past President), and in the School Program. An avid gardener, he was a frequent contributor to the gardens at The Sylvanus Thayer Birthplace grounds.

Gordon was a member of The Church of the Pilgrimage of Plymouth, and went to the Plymouth COA regularly.

Gordon is survived by son Geoffrey and his wife Elizabeth (Hughes) Campbell of Plymouth, his grandchildren Colin Campbell of Plymouth, Rosemary Fitzgerald and her husband Josh of Springfield, and Cuyler Campbell of Kingston.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Church of the Pilgrimage, 15 Town Sq., Plymouth MA, on February 24, 2018 at 10AM. Interment will be at the family plot at Milton Cemetery at 2:30PM.
