Obituary for Cpl. John W Wood Jr.

Cpl. John W. Wood, Jr. (“Jake”) passed away on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 with his family by his side. He was the son of John and Julieanne Siemers.

Cpl. Wood, was a 2011 graduate of Plymouth North High School. He immediately answered his calling in life to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a 2012 graduate of Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Platoon 2020, Parris Island, SC. He was an instrumental and integral leader of the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force (GCEITF) at Twentynine Palms in California. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and was a selected recipient of the Marine Corps Reserve Medal. He was awarded multiple Commendations; including the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation in addition to Individual Certificates & Letters of Appreciation from the United States Marine Corps.

Cpl. Wood, was an active proponent and volunteer of the USMC Reserve Toys for Tots Program Collection & Distribution Centers. He took great pride in this program and made a profound difference in lives of children and their families across many communities during the holiday season.

Cpl. Wood is survived by his loving and devoted parents, Julieanne and John Siemers of Plymouth, and his sister and best friend, Christina Wood also of Plymouth. He leaves behind his father, John W. Wood of Norwell, and his sisters Patricia and Lylah Wood in addition to his grandmother Christine Siemers of Naples, Florida and his loving girlfriend Sara Hickey. He was a beloved Nephew, Cousin and Uncle. He was a devoted Marine and a true friend to all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Bruce W. Fletcher, Margaret F. Fletcher (Jeddry) and John P. Siemers, and his Uncle, Andrew W. Fletcher.

Funeral Arrangements will be under the care of Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street in Plymouth. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, December 27th. Funeral Services will be held at Bourne National Cemetery at 11:00am on Thursday, December 28th. Friends and Relatives are respectfully invited to attend.
