Carol Ann Horn, age 78, died after a short illness on Feb. 25, 2018, in Plymouth, MA. She was the daughter of James and Grace Deitsch, and beloved wife of Joseph A. Horn, Jr. for more than 48 years. She is survived by her children, Rachel McGonagill and Matthew Horn, and by her grandchildren, Molly, Maeve and Kate Horn.

Carol's life was a varied one. Just out of high-school, she entered the convent, twice, but changed direction and left to attend Boston College while working full time in their admissions office. She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in education and taught for several years before her marriage and children. When she was 40, after being a homemaker for 10 years, she went back to school to become an RN, graduating with honors from Labouré Junior College in 1983. Her favorite career was teaching, however, so after she passed her nursing boards, she accepted a teaching position at St. Joseph's School in Quincy, where she worked until she retired.

Carol doted on her family. Her husband, who passed in 2015, was her light and her life. She loved her children and grandchildren without reserve and wanted to spend as much time with them as possible. But she also devoted herself to her spiritual family, the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth, and found many friends through the Center for Active Living programs. In addition, she volunteered at the Plymouth Public Library and at Elder Care Services.

In her home, Carol was an avid reader, knitter and painter, and she enjoyed scrapbooking with the many pictures she took of family, friends and the travels she took with her husband. She loved to cook, and liked to bake her own bread from a recipe she learned from her grandmother. She was fascinated with the genealogy of her family.

In sum, Carol Horn had an impact on many, many lives and will be sorely missed.

A service will be held in her honor on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:30am at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 384 Court St. in Plymouth, MA. A light luncheon will follow.
