Obituary for Jane Elizabeth Baxter (Baxter)

Jane Elizabeth Baxter (Baxter)
Jane Baxter was the beloved daughter of Hud & Betty Baxter. Jane is survived by the light of her life, her son Hudson Gallagher, her brother Jonathan, his wife Lisa and their three children Caroline, Davis and Bronwen. She is also survived by many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Jane Baxter was proud to be a native Cape Codder and was also proud to be a direct descendant of Thomas Howes who settled on Cape Cod in 1637.

Jane attended Yarmouth Schools, graduated from Walnut Hill Prep School in Natick, MA and attended Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire.

She was an avid sailor, gardener, hiker and traveler having visited many of the European countries, China, Iceland, the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada. Jane was planning the trip of a life time to Africa this coming Spring. Jane was involved in the Hyannis Yacht Club, PTA, Osterville Garden Club and the Cape Cod Rowing Club.

Jane began her career at the Barnstable District Attorney’s Office where she became the Fiscal Officer. She worked at IFAW and was thrilled when she was able to travel to the northern ice fields with the effort to save the baby seals. After taking a brief leave to raise her son, Hudson, Jane returned to work at the family business, becoming a vital part of Baxter Crane & Rigging as the Office Manager.

We are so grateful for the time we had with her, she will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, for those who shared Jane’s love of sailing and maritime history, donations may be made in Jane’s name to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum 135 Main Street in Hyannis, MA. Or for those who share her love of all animals donations may be made in her name to the Animal Rescue League—Brewster Shelter 3891 Main St in Brewster, MA 02631

There will be a Celebration of her life at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum 135 South St in Hyannis, MA on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 5-7pm.
